Racing Stripes

Mark had a blast creating music for this fantastic family film directed by Frederik Du Chau and done in the style of Babe (live action with talking animals).

An abandoned zebra grows up believing he is a racehorse, and with the help of his barnyard friends and a teenage girl he sets out to achieve his dream of racing with thoroughbreds. An all-star cast of voice actors includes Frankie Muniz, Mandy Moore, Dustin Hoffman and Whoopi Goldberg.

Mark describes his musical approach to racing stripes Racing Stripes as large orchestral score, very much in a “traditional” vein, with four main themes which are developed over the score’s 68 minutes. The hundred-piece orchestra was recorded at George Martin’s exquisite Air Studios in London. And capping it all off is an amazing song that Mark co-wrote with Sting called “Taking The Inside Rail”. Mark says, “Working with Sting was truly inspirational and a lot of fun! I will always have this image of “modern song writing” with him, two guys sitting next to each other with laptops, typing in lyrics, typing in notes, trying things out. And in the end… a superb song!”
