Mark’s March 2011 Playlist

Category: News

Hi guys!

Haven’t done a playlist in a little while…we listen to a lot of music around here, especially when Mark is working on a film.  Here’s Mark’s March 2011 playlist!

It’s an interesting blend…a new band Mark is in to, a tribute to the late great John Barry (and one of Mark’s favorite films), Mark’s choice for the best score from last year, and two very cool tracks that later became the foundation for huge hip hop tracks by Kanye West and Eminem.  Check out these artists if you like the tracks!  Hidden Orchestra, John Barry, Hans Zimmer, Bon Iver, and Skylar Grey.

Enjoy, and let us know in the comments what you’ve been listening to!

  1. I can not reproduce the tracks due to licensing restriction (Mexico) but I´ve already heard a couple of these tracks and love “Time” from Mr. Zimmer it´s just amazing, another track that I love most (not included in the list) is “The promise” from Michael Nymman and The Quarry by John Barry.

Great music, great composers, please keep doing these masterpieces and sharing with us your art… regards

  2. I’ve been working on a score for a short film myself and for ideas I’ve been listening to James Newton Howard’s “I Am Legend” score, Pino Donaggio’s “Carrie”, and Danny Elfman’s “Edward Scissorhands”.

  3. Played recently, in my loft:

    Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Body Acoustic’
    Mario Bauza’s ‘944 Columbus’
    Ginger Baker’s ‘African Force’

    :
Tony Levin’s ‘Pieces of the Sun’ &
    Philip Glass’ ‘Kundun’

  4. Can’t stop listening to “Delores Claiborne” soundtrack. I think it is one of Elfman’s best and reminds me of a jazz album as I am always hearing and discovering something new inside of it. Thanks for the playlist! Best Regards!

  5. Min interesse for film musik er meget nyt og næsten hver dag får jeg forskellige inspirationer til at lytte til forskellige komponister. Det sker at efter at hørt film musik får jeg interesse for at se selve filmen.

I can not reproduce the tracks, maybe due to licensing restriction (Denmark). I have soundtrack from Inception so I´ve listened to “Time” again.
I associate this music with our perception of time. The music starts quietly as our lives and slowly grows and becomes more and more intensive, such as our life. The music culminates and again becomes more and more calm as our old age and finally ends abruptly, as our life (time). The time has expired.
